A 5-Day Madeira Itinerary with Room to Explore

Balance city time, coast, mountains and an optional walking day instead of rushing between sights.

Green mountain valleys and a viewpoint in eastern Madeira

Five days give you more room to separate regions and keep a spare day for changing weather. Start with your accommodation area, arrival and departure times, then decide which experiences matter most.

Day 1

Settle into Funchal

Explore the waterfront and Old Town. Pick one main city attraction and leave room to settle into your accommodation.

Day 2

A western day

Choose priorities on the western side, such as Porto Moniz, Seixal or Fanal. Discuss a route and leave time to stop rather than treating them as a mandatory sequence.

Day 3

Mountains and the east

Consider Pico do Arieiro, Ribeiro Frio and Santana. Ask the team what fits your chosen starting point and preferred pace.

Day 4

Walking or a slower local day

If conditions and trail access allow, choose a walk suited to your fitness. Alternatively spend a slower day around Funchal, gardens or a coastal village.

Day 5

A flexible finish

Keep the final day adaptable for weather or missed interests. If you have a flight, confirm travel timing and avoid building the day around a distant stop.

Guided sightseeing or your own driver route?

Madeira Private Tours offers flexible West, East, Highlights and sunrise experiences with local guiding. Madeira Private Driver helps turn your chosen stops into a realistic custom day. Pick the emphasis you need rather than assuming tours are fixed.

Planning a walking day

A hiking transfer is transport, not a hiking guide. Ask about selected transfer routes and confirm drop-off, pickup, finish timing and current trail access separately.

From planning to the right provider

Choose the emphasis of your day

Five days suit a mix of guided experiences — a West or East private tour gives you suggested stops and local guiding on the days you want them.

A custom driver day fits the days where you already know your stops and want help with route order and travel timing.

Discuss a custom driver day

Madeira Tour Planner introduces two services run by David & Cátia. It is not a third provider or an independent ranking. Agree availability, itinerary and booking terms directly.

Planning ideas only. Confirm current opening times, conditions and transport arrangements before you travel, and check official trail status before walking. This guide does not confirm feasibility or availability.
